Schools placements
In Lattitude’s outdoor placements, you will have the opportunity to work alongside Australian volunteers in summer camps, helping to teach outdoor sports, such as sailing, kayaking and rock-climbing.The outward-bound centre and youth hostel places offer opportunities to understand the administration of such organisations, as well as some participation in their activities. Canada also has placements available in large outdoor camps for disadvantaged, terminally ill, and mentally and physically disabled children or adults.
The work is varied ranging from maintenance, counseling, general outdoor skills, canoeing, sailing, life saving skills and first aid to woodcraft, camping and trekking! The caring component varies from 30% to 80% of the experience, depending on the camp structure. Basic caring would require lifting and helping with dressing (with more personal needs taken care of by onsite nurses).
There is also one conservation placement, helping to create walking tracks in northern British Columbia.
Our users say...
"The day camp ended and all my fellow staff headed home, and I prepared to come back to England I was very sad, I had originally been apprehensive about coming on this placement, but by the end of it, it had all gone way to quickly. My experience at camp was the most amazing time of my life - nothing could compare! The best piece of advice I can give to anyone going on a similar placement, is do everything that is offered. Make sure you throw yourself into each activity as before you know it you’ll be on the plane home and the last thing you want is regretting things you could of done but didn’t!"
