Travelling overland by truck from Gibraltar to Cape Town, Nairobi and Cairo, Oasis Overland's Trans Africa is a true overland expedition. Join us for an epic 23, 33 or 40 week trip!

You must expect to dig the truck out of mud and sand mat in the Sahara and still be ready to participate in day-to-day activities such as shopping, cooking and gathering fire wood. You will experience extremes of climate from the heat of the desert, to torrential downpours in the jungles. We will often be isolated and away from doctors and telephones and at times food and water supplies will be limited.

But it’s all worth it!

On this expedition you can discover a continent most travellers only dream of and meet people you may never otherwise encounter.

Oasis OverlandPlease note that because of the unpredictable nature of this expedition it is not always possible to follow exactly the itinerary below. For up-to-date information please contact us.

Gibraltar - we meet our Oasis expedition vehicle and crew and cross by ferry to North Africa.

Morocco - we visit the Roman City of Volubillis, the ancient city of Fez, Todra Gorge with its massive red cliffs and Marrakech where the main square comes alive at night with food stalls, storytellers and snake charmers.

Mauritania & The Sahara - off road driving for hundreds of miles through the heat and harshness of the desert, occasionally digging the truck out of soft sand!

Mali - we drive through Sahel scrublands and villages - goats, cattle and chickens are part of the roadside scenery. From the mud built towns of Mopti and Djenne we travel to the remote Bandiagara Escarpment, trekking to visit Dogon tribe villages.

Burkina Faso - we hear some of the best music in West Africa!

Ghana - another change in people and culture - after two months we are in an English speaking country. After Mole National Park, famous for its elephants, we camp near Accra on palm-fringed beaches.

Togo & Benin - Voodoo is the main religion in Togo where you can visit fetish markets. In Benin you can take canoes out to Ganvie village, built on bamboo stilts on Lake Nakoue.

Oasis OverlandNigeria - with over 100 million people living in this country the cities of Abuja and Lagos are full of hustle and bustle. We drive through mountains, lush jungle and rough roads.

Cameroon - you can climb Mount Cameroon or just relax on the beach. We travel on through tropical rainforest, waterfalls and Pygmy villages.

Gabon - we visit the capital city Libreville and you can take trips in dugout canoes up river into the jungle.

Congo - Next stop is Ponte Noire city with night clubs hosting some of Africa’s top musicians. Nearby is the Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

Democratic Republic Of Congo - The roads here will probably be the worst we encounter on the whole trip! All part of the experience as well as seeing the 10 km wide mouth of the Congo River.

Angola - one of the poorest countries in Africa. We visit Da Quicama NP, old Portuguese Forts, waterfalls, deserted beaches and lots of friendly people.

Namibia & Botswana - We look for some of Namibia’s 30 remaining desert elephants and travel through the Himba people’s land. Our truck takes us across the Kalahari Desert, home of the San Bushmen.

South Africa - we visit Addo National Park, to look for elephant, hippo, rhino, buffalo, lion, and leopard. You can ride an ostrich at an Ostrich Farm or jump the biggest bungy jump in the world at Bloukrans Bridge! After 23 weeks travelling, we reach Cape Town.

Namibia - trekking in Fish River Canyon, climbing massive sand dunes in the desert, quad biking, dune sledding, sky diving & horse riding in Swakopmund and night time game viewing at Etosha National Park.

Bostwana - see wildlife by dug-out canoe on the Okavango Delta and cruise the Chobe River to view elephants.

Zimbabwe - We arrive at the adventure capital of Victoria Falls for whitewater rafting, bungy jumping and flights over the Falls. Walk in Matobo National Park to look for rhino and walk with lion cubs at Antelope Park.

Malawi & Tanzania - Try out watersports or relax on the beaches of Lake Malawi. From Dar es Salaam you can take the ferry to Zanzibar Island before we head to the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti.

Oasis OverlandRwanda - Here you have the opportunity to trek through the rainforest to see the awesome mountain gorillas.

Uganda - You can visit a Chimpanzee Sanctuary as well as white water raft near the source of the Nile.

Kenya - We camp at Lake Naivasha where hippos sometimes feed at night and Lake Nakuru, home to almost a million flamingos. After 33 weeks we reach Nairobi before heading north to Marsabit and Samburu National Parks.

Ethiopia - Our truck continues to Ethiopia where we find the holy city of Axum and the incredible rock-hewn churches at Lalibela.

Sudan - From the capital of Khartoum you can see dancing dervishes, visit the camel market or visit Pyramids at Meroe. After crossing the Nubian Desert we take the ferry across Lake Nasser.

Egypt - From Aswan we travel north to Egypt’s incredible monumentsat Luxor before heading into the Western Desert and its oases. Finally we reach the great Pyramids at Giza and 40 weeks after leaving London, journey’s end at Cairo.
