Lattitude Global Volunteering community projects include:
- Working for a stroke charity – you will work in all areas of the charity but more than likely you will help to raise awareness of the small association through the preparation of pamphlets and information brochures. You may well attend meetings to co-ordinate publicity and materials with the Ministry of Health.
- Working for a homeless and housing charity. You will be involved in research and youth work. The research will be on volunteerism with the involvement of youth in social and economic development. You will work in communities of different culture and religious beliefs; bearing in mind that the charity is a Christian organisation that serves everyone who is in need of good housing. There is a section called The Youth Chapter and you will develop your role towards leading that section.
- Working for a Special School - The Special School is part of the Fiji Crippled Children’s Society and has approximately 90 pupils, all with physical disabilities including many deaf children. The children are aged between six and 13 years old. You will work at the Special School doing individual work with the children, helping those with severe disabilities and assisting the teachers in general classroom work. All extra curricular skills are useful for this placement.
- Working for a Health centre – The Health Centre aims to provide free health service to the poor and needy in the region. You will assist staff in administrative fields, setting up patient records on computer and co-ordinating the centre’s health services in liaison with the centre personnel. You may also be assigned other duties by the health administrator from time to time.
- Working for The Red Cross – The Red Cross is a disaster relief and community education organisation. You will have a varied role on this project and could be helping with organising community infrastructure programmes. You may also help build an active youth programme for the branch (ie: HIV/Aids peer education). Your duties will also include the teaching of basic computer skills at the local high school and assistance in volunteer recruitment and fundraising. A willingness to work within projects that are ongoing and to be part of an immediate response team in the event of a national disaster is needed.
