Take part in a rewarding and worthwhile project in an Indian orphanage. Our projects are situated in and around the small town of Madurai, some of them in incredibly scenic areas. We work with many different orphanages in India. Some are for very young children and babies and others are for older children. You will be expected to help with all ages!
At the orphanages for younger children and babies there are trained carers, so you are there to help them and give general support where needed. Your support is excellent for the carers as well as the children because it frees their time to concentrate on other areas such as gaining financial support and working on administration.
By playing games with the children you boost their confidence and encourage them to use English in an informal way.Your hours may vary insofar as they will be subject to shift rotas. Normally you will work from nine to five, Monday to Friday. However, you may sometimes work evenings or nights, sometimes over weekends etc, but you will have time off on other days instead.
India is a combination of experiences in one place - it's vast and exotic and frenetic and beautiful and peaceful and very, very different - you'll love it!
Accommodation
You will most likely share a Travellers house with other volunteers and you may share a room with up to three other volunteers. The house is very nice, with marbled tiled floors, verandas back and front and a rooftop patio/garden. It has mod cons and facilities, including some en-suite bathrooms, showers and Western toilets. There is a communal lounge with TV.Food
Your food will be prepared for you, but there may be occasional days when you'll need to prepare your own meals (on the cook's day off, for example). Food is a mixture of Western and local meals and includes fruit, fruit juice, etc. You'll also have access to the kitchen if you want to make snacks or drinks.
Travellers placements are very flexible and can be combined with any other Travellers placement and tailor made to your requirements!

Live and work abroad helping children, adults, animals and entire communities in less advantaged countries. Learn about their culture from the inside! Stay from as little as two weeks to as long as one year - you choose your dates and duration!
