You need at least a basic level of Spanish for this project so if you can’t speak the language get learning! As well as your pocket dictionary bring plenty of compassion and affection as you will be working with youngsters who need extra care. As the projects are quite isolated, they suit people who are independent and who enjoy the slower pace of rural life rather than the bustle of the capital, Lima.

volunteers with a love of children as well as a genuine desire to make a difference will be perfect for this placement. You will need to have patience and as much energy as your students! Working with children can be fun and exciting but you never know what they are going to do next so be prepared for every eventuality! We include the i-to-i 40 hour online TEFL course to help with your preparation. This is the perfect placement to take as part of a gap year and can help you develop skills that will last a lifetime.
