If you're more at home coaching athletics than in a classroom and you want to make a difference, coaching athletics let's you make your mark, and have a lot of fun in the process!!

Travellers now offers an athletics coaching placement in Accra, the dynamic capital city of Ghana!

Athletics in Ghana is a fairly big sport but many schools lack any proper equipment or grounds to compete on. Travellers has teamed up with a school that has good facilities and equipment, so we are able to give the children at the school access to as many different types of athletic events as possible.

Below is a list of athletic events that you as a coach can coach at the school based on their facilities and equipment:

• All running events (excluding steeple chase & Hurdles)
• Javelin
• Discuss
• Shot Put
• Long Jump
• Triple Jump

Many children in Ghana don’t have the opportunity to receive athletics coaching and training, nor do they know much about the sport. Ghanaian children generally have natural athletic ability and are strong runners at a young age, but they lack the opportunity to have professional coaching. This is where you come in. With professional Athletics coaching from Travellers volunteers, children will be able to use their raw talent and put it into use, hopefully providing them with an opportunity to go on and compete at a high level within Ghana.

As a Travellers athletics coach, you will be working at a school in Accra coaching athletics during P.E. lessons. The school has the basic athletics equipment and facilities, a training field where you will be holding your athletic lessons, and a cricket pitch/oval that can be converted into a 400 metre grassed running track ... with your help.

We are also are keen to get volunteers to organize athletic meetings within the school and possibly athletic meetings between other schools. As there is very little sporting infrastructure for athletics in Ghana and not much chance for children compete, we're very passionate about providing the children of Ghana the opportunity to not only learn athletics from an experienced coach but also to give them the opportunity to compete in athletics.

We are also keen to expand this project to other schools in the area to give as many children the opportunity to do athletics as possible, but this can only be achieved through volunteer athletic coaches coming to Ghana to expand the programme.
