The schools you will be working in are mainly for the poorer African children in the local community. Travellers has a long-time programme in these schools and the children have benefitted tremendously from our volunteers. This is a very sociable placement where you'll most likely share accommodation and work with many Travellers volunteers.South Africa is a huge, beautiful and rapidly changing country. As a volunteer on one of our projects, you will be at the forefront of this change. We help schools in three different locations:
-Emakhosini, the Zulu Valley of the Kings
This is a truly unique teaching location. You'll be part of a project that aims to preserve the traditional Zulu legends in the local community. The aim is to keep the legends alive and re-educate the local community through the medium of culture studies lessons, as well as through music and dance.
-The holiday resort of Knysna or nearby Plettenberg Bay or GeorgeThis region is part of the renowned Garden Route, with some of the most beautiful beaches and coastline in the world.
-The tranquil and beautiful province of Limpopo
On this project, you will be teaching at the Khanyisa Education Centre, in the tranquil and beautiful province of Limpopo. A highly motivated team of professional teachers offers around seven hundred pupils from Grade 0 to Grade 12 (pre-primary till high school), the highest quality of education and facilities in the region. Apart from the standard national curriculum taught, Khanyisa also excels in furthering special talents such as sport, drama, music, culture, IT etc. All of the teachers at the centre are highly passionate about teaching and passing on of valuable information and life skills to their learners.
An added bonus is that you'll also be taken to local Game Reserves and have the opportunity to observe wildlife like elephants, buffalo, rhino and many other African bush species.
Our users say...
"I learnt a lot about myself whilst in Africa and have certainly grown up a lot! I have made some great friends. There were a mix of ages and types of people, but I think that's what makes the placement so fantastic. I would recommend this placement to somebody who has passion and is willing to go for it! You get out what you put in to the placement. If you go in with enthusiasm it will just encourage your students even more!" - Ben Smith
Travellers’ placements are very flexible and can be combined with any other Travellers placement and tailor made to your requirements!
