Home to some of Africa’s friendliest people, Ghana is the place where Madventurer began back in 1998, and we’ve been here ever since! We’ve completed dozens of successful building projects across the country from clinics and schools, to toilet blocks. Working in partnership at all levels with tribal chiefs, village development committees and major international charities, our projects form an integral part of long term development plans, and are thoroughly researched to ensure their sustainability.
On the project
On arrival on a project in Ghana you’ll be met at the airport by your crew leader (if requested) and introduced to your fellow Madventurers, before being whisked away along a bumpy road to the village you’ll be calling home for the next 2-6 weeks!
Living at the heart of a rural community and working alongside local volunteers on a building project, with the opportunity to teach in local schools, you’ll be amazed by how quickly you feel at home as you settle into village life, and make new friends on the building site and in the classroom!
On the building site you can expect to be carrying, mixing, painting, plastering and laying, working alongside members of the local community and your Madventurer team, to complete the building and see it ready for use before you leave! In the classroom you’ll have the opportunity to bring your enthusiasm and energy to lessons, teaching subjects such as English and Maths, as well as holding more creative classes including art, music and sports. Our projects are flexible, allowing you to teach, build, or combine the two.
Weekends on the project are your free time and a chance to explore! You could find yourself trekking through a rainforest to swim in a waterfall pool, playing volleyball against the village team, or throwing some reggae moves on a packed dance floor in the capital!
Work hard? Play hard!
We believe that if you work hard you deserve to play hard too! Why not join us after your project on our very own Mad to Timbuktu adventure? Travel with us, through Ghana, Burkina Faso and Mali on this 21 day adventure to a place most people don’t believe exists!Walking across a jungle canopy, trekking the vast cliffs of the Dogon country, clubbing in Ouagadougou, visiting the great Mud Mosque of Djenne, and riding a camel into the Sahara to spend a night sleeping under the stars, are just some of the highlights on your way to the mystical town of Timbuktu.

Madventurer offers the chance to combine volunteer projects in rural communities with adventurous overland travel. Projects typically include building and teaching but medical, conservation and coaching schemes are also frequently run. Groups leave year-round to destinations in Africa, South America, South-East Asia, the Indian Sub-Continent and Pacific Islands.
