Product Details

For applicants from the UK, we have a number of bursary schemes available for volunteers from a variety of backgrounds.

Our bursary scheme and funded placement projects reduce the barrier of cost for young people experiencing financial problems. They are designed to help young people who would not otherwise be able to afford to go.

Volunteers will assist other teachers and also take classes for themselves. This fantastic opportunity not only equips Ecuadorian children with a useful skill but also furthers the personal enrichment of volunteers who know they are making a valuable contribution to Ecuadorian society.

Work is in elementary, primary and secondary schools in both, Quito and Cuenca. Many of these schools are in the state sector, though some private schools are also included in the programme. Some schools are very short of resources at the extent that parents have to get involved and contribute with their labour to improve basic infrastructure like toilets. The children come from families where alcoholism, domestic violence, poverty and illiteracy are common.

Your contribution will be not only your teaching of English but also other activities to make the school life of these children a little bit more enjoyable. These schools require strong volunteers with musical and artistic skills and a lot of imagination.

The programme also includes placements in large, friendly and well-run and equipped private schools. In here you will have opportunity to become involved in IT, sports (some schools have swimming pool) and music. Some of these schools have a considerable number of poor children on scholarships.

Qualities/skills required

An ability to speak Spanish is desirable, however if you have no Spanish but are willing to learn, you may also be considered.
