If you are looking for experience in accountancy why not work for a company in Accra, Ghana? It is a great way to add to your CV as well as seeing how a West African office works. Ghana is struggling to attract a fraction of the investment needed even to have a working infrastructure. You can see here how local and international companies work in this very poor, but politically stable environment. You can be part of a tough long-term development process that is gradually transforming the lives of many Africans in Ghana's capital city.

We work with a large international accountancy firm that welcomes volunteers who have some experience in this area, for example students who are already studying business, accountancy or management degrees and graduates of these subjects.

On placement you'll get involved with the day-to-day activities in the office. There is a lot of auditing work, which brings you into contact with many different clients from small start up businesses in Accra to large public corporations. You can also work with the business support team that helps small businesses with practical business advice. The company has 70 staff in the office. You will be assigned a supervisor who will be able to advise and support you during your placement, and of course our Projects Abroad Ghana office are always on hand too.

This placement would be well-suited to someone looking to fill his or her sandwich year of a four-year course. Because of the career-related aspects of our business placements, each programme is designed to suit each individual volunteer. It may be possible for you to work in other areas such as marketing or import and export. If you let us know your qualifications, previous work experience, aspirations and personal preferences, we will endeavour to find you the best placement.

Ghana is the home of Africa's friendliest and most welcoming people, an intensely colourful land of dense forest, wild savannah and great beaches. During your spare time, there are great opportunities here for travelling around Ghana, and surrounding countries such as Togo and Mali.
