Work in the prestigious Mount Nelson Hotel, or the beautiful Breakwater Lodge situated in the vibrant V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The Breakwater Lodge is a unique environment in that it also forms part of the Breakwater Campus of the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business
Just a minute away from restaurants, pubs, theatres and shops, the Breakwater Hotel is perfectly positioned in the heart of Cape Town's V & A Waterfront development. It neighbours the CBD and also lies within easy reach of the main routes to the beaches, mountain walks and city hotspots, as well as the airport.
The experience you'll gain from this placement will cover most aspects of hotel management and catering practice. You'll live on-site and become one of the team that runs this quality hotel.
As with all our Work Experience placements, this placement is tailored to suit your specific requirements to ensure you gain the maximum benefit and experience. We’ll have detailed discussions with you to ascertain what you’re looking for, then we’ll tailor the programme for you.

About the Breakwater Lodge
Once a 19th Century prison, the Hotel today provides accommodation in a spectacular setting that looks over the bay and up onto Table Mountain. It is situated in the Waterfront where there is a multitude of celebrated eateries and entertainment centres, including the Two Oceans Aquarium.
The Breakwater Hotel has 300 rooms offering various accommodation options. All rooms are equipped with telephone and television. There are Reception staff on duty 24 hours per day.
The atmosphere at the Hotel is one of relaxed comfort intermingled with that of the academic world because of its affiliation with the University of Cape Town's School of Business.
From its Portswood Ridge vantage point, the Breakwater Hotel commands a bird’s eye view of the restored harbour, and forms part of the Breakwater Campus of the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business. It has many function venues which are technologically advanced and equipped with modern state of the art audio-visual equipment, to facilitate virtually any type of conference or function.
The Breakwater Hotel has been impressively remodelled, though the essence of its historical design has been retained. The prison building also accommodates the Graduate School of Business’s offices, lecture theatres, function venues and seminar rooms.
The Breakwater Hotel caters for breakfasts, lunch and dinner buffets, cocktail parties and business launches in many function venues or restaurants. Among the facilities offered are lecture theatres, an exhibition hall, a faculty/executive hall, seminar rooms, syndicate and board rooms, academic rooms and a private dining room. There are also two restaurants.
Your Work The type of work you'll do will depend very much on how we arrange your placement to suit your own requirements or preferences.
For example, if you would like to gain more experience on the day-to-day running of the hotel side, we will arrange for you to spend a greater portion of your time in the Rooms Division. This would include working on the switchboard, in the reception, reservations and in housekeeping, with possibly a some nights doing audit duties. If your preference is to gain more experience of the catering side, we will arrange for you to have adequate time working in the Food and Beverage Division. During part of your time you'll be supervised by the Training Manager.

You could also do your project in the prestigious Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town.
