Product Details

All our work experience placements are tailored to suit your specific requirements, to ensure you gain the maximum benefit and experience from the placement. We’ll have detailed discussions with you to ascertain what you’re looking for, then we’ll tailor the programme for you.

The work
We have medical placements available in both North and South India. In South India, these placements are open to all, but in North India you will need to be qualified in order to be accepted on a placement. Therefore, if you're on your gap year, we can place you in a hospital in South India, but not in North India.

In South India we work with, amongst others, the Vadamalaya Hospital (pictured right), based in Madurai. This is a hospital with excellent facilities and works extensively with the local community. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Where you're placed for your Medical Work Experience will depend very much in what you need to get out of your placement and in your area of interest in medicine.

Once we know what you want maximum exposure to, as well as the kind of experience you want to gain most, we'll arrange for you to be placed in a suitable institution.  This could be a hospital, clinic, or possibly even a medical practice. 
Other areas of medical work experience placements (in South India) include Ophthalmology, Physiotherapy and others. Please contact us if you have a particular area that you would like to gain experience in that is not listed here and we will do our best to arrange an appropriate placement for you. 

Accommodation
Your accommodation will differ depending on the type of placement you're doing and where you're placed. You may live in guest house accommodation or you may live in a volunteer house, sharing with other Travellers volunteers, or with a local Indian family. Indian families are wonderfully warm and caring, and tend to 'mother' our Travellers - you will be well looked after. 

In South India you will more than likely stay in a flat or apartment with other Travellers volunteers.
Many of the families where our volunteers have stayed have taken them on trips to show them the sights - they truly 'adopt' you and they are wonderfully friendly and hospitable! 

Travellers' placements are very flexible & can be combined with any other Travellers placement & tailor made to you own requirements!
