Nepal offer volunteers a truly astounding experience - our office is based in the bustling capital city of Kathmandu where jostling crowds, rickety bullock carts and noisy auto-rickshaws all make a contribution to the character and constant energy of its traditional narrow streets. Our Medical Experience and Observation projects will provide you with an excellent preparation for your career in medicine. The programme is tailored, where possible, to your individual experience and interests and to your preferred size and type of hospital or clinic.
You will be involved in the day-to-day running of hospitals and clinics, observing or directly assisting nurses on wards (depending on your previous experience). By demonstrating initiative and enthusiasm, you can help out in simple but practical ways, whilst vastly increasing your medical knowledge. Working on a nursing programme in Nepal, you can be involved with a number of different projects, from busy general hospitals and clinics, to children's hospitals that specialise in reconstruction and physiotherapy. If you have a particular area of interest, we can arrange for you to concentrate your time within a particular department or hospital.
All volunteers are allocated a supervisor within their placement, and also have the backup of our staff in the local office in Kathmandu and the UK. Volunteers stay with a local family.
The countryside is superb for trekking and climbing, or white-water rafting. Visit the Himalayas (you can't miss them!), travel to India or take a tour to Tibet. The travelling opportunities are wide-ranging, and the views are stunning!
Our users say..."My overall experience in Nepal with TPA was very good. I felt included and almost part of a family with TPA and my host family. I had some wonderful cultural experiences like visiting my host family's parents away in the mountains" - Caspar Erskine.
