Advice and Articles
Improve your mind and have fun. Learn about the Renaissance and the Classical Tradition.
The course places the art, architecture and sculpture of Italy within the broader context of Western Civilization while opening the eyes of students to art. Within the two weeks students will have a taster of Italian lifestyle and will enjoy Italian food, wine and music in the balmy summer heat. You will spend 5 nights in Venice, 5 nights in Florence and 4 in Rome, with free time built into the programme in every city.
Students should drop any of the ideas they have about teachers versus students, as do all our tutors - this is not a 'school trip'. Our brilliant tutors are dynamic, enthusiastic experts from various academic fields. They roll back the disciplines of formal education and provide an inter-disciplinary approach that includes (to name a few) philosophy, history, theology and mythology.
This course would suit...This is the ideal course for school leavers, sixth formers and university students on their summer holidays who want to have a wonderful two weeks and do something interesting.
It is extremely valuable for those who have left school and are off to study art history at university. It is also a fantastic opportunity for those who have not taken a gap year or forsook the arts and humanities for the sciences and languages.
Students come to us from a variety of academic backgrounds. No previous knowledge or Art or Art History is required.
AccommodationOur hotels in Italy always have an excellent location and character. In Rome the hotel over looks the jaw-dropping Pantheon, in Florence we stay a stone's throw from the Duomo and in Venice we stay in the very heart of the city, a short walk from the Rialto Bridge, Accademia and Piazza San Marco. In each case the hotels are family run and we have used them for years. Rooms are generally shared in 3s or 4s and have private bathrooms.
Dates of the courseThere are two summer courses each year in July and August. The course is limited to 30 students. Tutorials are all on site, far away from turgid lecture halls. You will be taught in groups of no more than ten students by an enthusiastic young expert.
