Go deeper into the diverse culture of Italy and the Mediterranean from the Ancient World to the Baroque.
Southern Italy is the less obvious Summer option from AHA. This course travels through Sicily, across the Straits of Messina to Reggio Calabria, up to Naples and finally to Rome over a period of two weeks.
The main theme of this trip is the Classical tradition from the Greek world to Michelangelo, with a liberal smothering of the Baroque.
A course like this can add real lustre to a student's academic credentials. The following itinerary explains the main themes and structure of the trip, but is not exhaustive in its descriptions of everything that will be seen on the trip.
This product would suit...This course is a natural extension to AHA's Northern Italy trip and indeed quite a number of do both courses over two summers or both in one go. There are discounts for this explained below.
For art historians, this course will expand beyond the usual cannon of art history to give the student a great depth of understanding and visual experience. For classicists, historians, or indeed, anyone who questions the 'need to know' culture, this course will do much to engender a cultivated mind.
The age range of our summer courses allows for those who are leaving the lower sixth as well as those who are at University.
AccommodationIn common with all our courses, we stay in hotels which have great locations, some unusual aspect of charm and in the heart of the cities we visit. While in Sicily we stay in an 18th century palazzo in Palermo and in Syracuse a friendly, family run pensione. In Amalfi, we will be a stones throw from the fantastic coastline, whilst in Naples we will be at the Hotel Neapolis in the heart of the city. In Rome the hotel is the Pensione Navona in the heart of Rome, tucked behind the Pantheon.

User Comments:
“The AHA course kindled in me a love and appreciation of Italian art such that I was able to consider taking a course in Renaissance history and art, as part of my Italian/French degree having never done any art history before, and accomplish an A grade. Thank-you.”
