Come to India and have fun with the kids during April and May. Transform their school holidays into an enjoyable learning experience at Summer Camp. The children love the Summer Camps - they're entertained, have somewhere to go when there's no one at home ... and they get a meal and win prizes! The prize for you is the big grins across all the kids' faces.
This is a special summer project arranged during the children’s holidays in April and May to keep them entertained, have fun and teach them some skills at the same time. The main appeal of the summer camps is that you can give hands-on attention to all the children in an informal setting; it’s an exciting opportunity for us, the children and you!
The activities on offer for the children are so wide-ranging that there is something for everyone:
- Many sports, including football, badminton, cricket, karate, yoga, chess, gymnastics
- A great range of creative activities including dance, art, design, drawing, puzzles, Indian folk music, drums, Western dance, even skating!
- More academic activities are also available mental maths, handwriting, spoken English, English grammar, computers, current affairs and amazing facts.
- We also have a ‘kiddies camp’ for those of you who love nurturing the little ones! This is aimed at providing an all-round and total learning and growing environment for them. You can help with story time, audio/ visual, music and dance.
The kids will be learning to use English at the same time, so they'll not only have fun, they'll also benefit from the activity. These activities also benefit the children by improving their team-work skills, social interaction and building their confidence.
AccommodationYour accommodation could comprise of either staying with a host family or living in a Travellers flat. In either accommodation you may share a room with another Travellers volunteer. The accommodation you’ll be allocated to will depend on which project you’re doing and the number of volunteers there at the same time as you. However, if you have a preference for either a host family or staying in a flat, we will do our best to accommodate you.

Duration Details:
Summer Camp runs for 4 weeks but this placement can be extended by combining it with any other project such as care, teaching, sports or work experience, subject to availability and any visa restrictions that may apply.
Cost Details:
When you’re on your placement, if you’d like to extend your time, you can do so at a minimal cost per additional week.
This placement would suit:
People who want to make a real difference, who want first-hand experience of real Indian culture and who have initiative. You can also learn Tamil while you’re there. No qualifications or previous experience are necessary, just a good dose of enthusiasm!

“Having done a placement where I have become part of a community and lived in the same way in which they do, I feel I have gained a greater understanding of the Indian culture and people compared to what I would have learnt as a passing tourist. The best thing about my placement would be getting to know both the children and staff at my school. They allow a real insight into seeing how friendly and open the Indian culture really is. Although hard at times, I found the teaching to be both rewarding and very enjoyable. The children are very charismatic and desperate to get to know more about you. I would recommend this placement to others, especially those with a bit of ‘get up and go’ as there is the opportunity to travel quite a bit at weekends thus the right person could have an amazing time. In order for someone to really make the most of their placement and to see a bit of India they would have to be adventurous, patient and have a desire to know more about the country and its people.”
