Stunning in its beauty, Scandinavia remains the most pristine of all the regions in Europe, it with little heavy industry scarring and polluting the landscape.

Scandinavia is famous for its picturesque scenery and crystal clear lakes. You can munch on a Danish pastry in Denmark, explore the buzzing capital of Helsinki in Finland, see the Northern Lights in Norway, dive into a sweaty sauna in Sweden, and explore Scandinavian culture.

Our route

If you want to InterRail around Scandinavia then your best bet is to start off in Copenhagen (Denmark). It’s by far the cheapest city to fly into as it’s the biggest airport.

From Copenhagen, we recommend this route:

Copenhagen >> Gotenborg (Sweden) >> Oslo (Norway) >> Stockholm (Sweden) >> Helsinki (Finland) >> Stockholm (Sweden) >> Copenhagen

The reason you pass through Sweden so many times is because it’s in the middle of the four countries.

Finland

Finland still remains relatively untouched and unknown, which is one of the reasons why it’s such a beautiful country to travel; you feel as if you’re the first person to discover the area.

The Finns are very proud and Finland remains the most Scandinavian country of the four. Expect to see honest and friendly locals; the Finns themselves make the country worth visiting, let alone the sites and activities.

The capital, Helsinki, has lots of cafes, restaurants and museums, but it’s the nightlife that attracts travellers; there are hundreds of little clubs to sample.

Another attraction to Finland is the landscape. There are dozens of forests and lakes, and if that’s not enough for you, then laze on one of the many sandy beaches in the north, which despite what you may think, are actually hot in the summer.

You can hire a lakeside cottage and get away from it you. Just you and the wild…

What we recommend…

We recommend you see the aurora in Norway, otherwise known as the Northern Lights. The Northern Lights are a natural light display in the sky caused by the collision of charged particles. The result is a majestic display of colour and light that captivates all who look upon it.

Why Scandinavia?

The beauty and the people…

Of all the regions of Europe, this is the most expensive, but it does have some of the best landscapes. Even though Stockholm (Sweden) is one of the world’s most expensive cities, it’s also one of the world’s most enjoyable. People who travel around Scandinavia are impressed by the extent of how kind and welcoming people are, and how much there is to see and do.
