Train tickets and passes for Australia...
There are some great train journeys in Australia, most notably the Indian Pacific train which takes you all the way from Sydney, through the Blue Mountains via Broken Hill and Adelaide and across the Nullarbor Desert to Perth.
Australia is a big place!
Many people choose train travel for the big journeys, as it is quicker and more comfortable than by bus.
You can buy point-to-point train tickets like you would back home, or there are a number of brilliant rail passes on offer.
If you travel by train, you'll get comfy, reclining seats and big windows to take in the view.
You can wander around the train as you like, meeting new people, or head to the buffet car for a snack or drink.

The different options are outlined below...
The Austrail Flexipass is a national rail pass offering flexibility of travel on rail and coach services
operated by CountryLink, Great Southern Rail and Traveltrain Holidays (aka Queensland Rail) and is available for
travel over 15 or 22 days duration in a six month period, from the first day of travel. A days travel by train
is a 24 hour period or part thereof and backtracking is allowed.
The Rail Explorer Pass allows travel on Australia’s Great Train Journeys - The Ghan, Indian Pacific and The
Overland, in any direction and as often as you like over a six month period, from the first day of travel.
Destinations accessible with the Rail Explorer Pass include Perth, Kalgoorlie, Adelaide, Broken Hill, Sydney,
Melbourne, Alice Springs (gateway to Uluru/Ayers Rock) and Darwin via Katherine.
The Backtracker Rail Pass allows unlimited travel on the XPT and XPLORER rail services and connecting coach
services operated by CountryLink to over 360 destinations around New South Wales. The pass also provides access
to the capital cities of Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Canberra. It is valid from the first day of travel for
either 14 days, 1, 3 or 6 months for consecutive travel in any direction.
The East Coast Discovery Pass allows unlimited rail travel in one direction over a six month period. Simply
choose from one of the five sector travel options available; Melbourne to Sydney, Melbourne to Brisbane,
Melbourne to Cairns, Sydney to Cairns and Sydney to Brisbane. The East Coast Discovery Pass also includes coach
connections to coastal areas, 50% off travel back to the point of origin and more...
The Wanderer Rail Pass allows unlimited rail travel in one direction over a six month period between Brisbane
and Cairns. All you have to decide is which direction to travel - northbound or southbound! The pass also
includes the following "Value Adds": coach connections to designated coastal areas, 50% discount to travel back
to the point of origin in Queensland, 50% discount travel on one outback journey in Queensland and more...
