The Malahat
Victoria is Vancouver Island's provincial capital and whilst there is plenty here to keep you occupied. The 4 hour journey from Victoria to Courtney on the Malahat should not be missed.
This brilliant trip takes you on a journey from the populated south of the island, across trestle bridges and ravines, through the densely forested Cowichan valley north to where you will find the Islands best ski resort, great whale watching opportunities and some gorgeous beaches.

Whale watching and kayaking along the islands stunning coastline, hiking in the interior's awe inspiring forests, with some of the tallest trees in the world and snow sports on Mt Washington are all available for the adventurous.

What you don't get
Food and drink are not included in the fares on these trains and there are no on board dining facilities so please take your own.
How it works
- You will be issued with a voucher, which must be exchanged at the departure station for your actual ticket.
- Before boarding the train you must take your voucher and passport to the VIA Rail ticket office where they will issue you the ticket for your journey.
- Please arrive at the station at least 1 hour prior to the departure of the train.
- VIA Rail only sell the same number of tickets as there are seats on board.
- If you do not have a reservation you will not be allowed to board unless there is space available - standing is not an option.
