The best way to visit the frozen north in comfort and safety the Hudson Bay travels three times a week in either direction. En-route meet the people who live in this rugged part of the country, ranging from members of First Nations to the descendants of the European families that settled here all of whom rely on the train as the only form of overland transportation serving many of the communities. In this inhospitable region words such as team, community, and friends take on a new meaning making the people some of the most welcoming in the country. The further north you go the fewer roads there are until eventually there are no roads at all and you realize how remote the region actually is and how privileged you are to be there.

What you get

There are two levels of service on the Hudson Bay:

Comfort (Economy) Class, for any Canada train trip, with its roomy seats, is synonymous with comfort and enjoyment.

• Comfortable seat in the coach car
• Footrest

• Pillow and blanket on overnight services
• Access to the Dining Car where you can purchase meals or just sit and chat with a cup of coffee

Sleeper Class, for that extra bit of comfort.

• Comfortable sleeping quarters supplied with pillows, blankets and duvets
• Choice of a berth, single, double or triple bedroom (which converts to a private sitting room during the day)
• Large picture windows
• Access to the Dining Car
• Access to a shower with complimentary shower kit and towels

What you don't get

Almost every need is catered for on the Hudson Bay - the only things you may need to buy are:

• Food and all drinks are charged extra
• Souvenirs

How it works

You will be issued with a voucher, which must be exchanged at the departure station for your actual ticket. Before boarding the train you must take your voucher and passport to the VIA Rail ticket office where they will issue you the ticket for your journey. Please arrive at the station at least 1 hour prior to the departure of the train. VIA Rail only sell the same number of tickets as there are seats on board. If you do not have a reservation you will not be allowed to board unless there is space available, standing is not an option.

Cancellations and refunds

Vouchers which are lost, stolen or validated/exchanged cannot be refunded. Refunds are only accepted on vouchers returned to International Rail before the start of their validity. Vouchers returned for cancellation or alterations have a standard 15% cancellation/exchange fee in addition to an administrative charge per ticket. Cancellation/alteration fees will be charged on each voucher returned. Duplicate or replacement vouchers cannot be issued under any circumstances.
