The most popular job at PGL! If you're full of energy then this is the role for you: combining instructing and group leading, you'll lead activity sessions, organise evening entertainments and ensure your group has the best stay possible.
Our Activity Instructor / Group Leaders combine instructing duties with pastoral care to ensure our guests have the best time possible with us.
As an AI/GL, you'll introduce guests to a number of activities and deliver group taster sessions in our core activities, including orienteering, abseiling, climbing, fencing, motorsports, ropes challenge courses, initiative exercises and archery as well as helping to organise and participate in evening entertainments.
This is a fantastic opportunity to share your love of sports and the outdoors with our young guests.
To work as an Activity Instructor/Group Leader you do not need to be qualified or highly experienced in any particular activity. However, you do need to be enthusiastic, willing to learn and have lots of energy!
You must be available to work for a very minimum of 12 weeks to be considered for this role, however preference will be given to applicants who can work for at least 20 weeks.
Please note that we do not have any summer-only vacancies for this role (e.g. June, July August).
Skills
No qualifications are required for this role as we offer a comprehensive training course to give you the skills, expertise and confidence to do your job. We look for applications from people who can demonstrate energy, enthusiasm and the ability to relate to young people.
Any experience that you have gained working with young people will enhance your application, whether it's volunteering with a local youth group or paid employment.
This role is particularly great for anyone looking to start their career in the outdoor industry, searching for a career break or a rewarding gap year project.You'll pick up numerous transferable skills for your CV including group communication, confidence, resourcefulness and how to handle situations as they arise.
Duties
Our AI/GLs are the heart and soul of the PGL experience. You'll introduce guests to a variety of outdoor activities, from quad biking and fencing to climbing and initiative exercises.
This role offers a great deal of variety, not just because you will find yourself doing lots of different activities, but because you will also find yourself organising evening entertainment or liaising with visiting teachers and party leaders.
Training
Not a lot of experience in this area? No worries! Anyone who joins the PGL Staff team for the first time with limited or no previous experience can join us on the PGL Apprenticeship Scheme. This provides an industry-leading package of training, support and qualifications, enabling people to join PGL at a range of experience levels and will equip you with the skills and confidence to perform your role. There are no age restrictions on our apprenticeship programme.
