Product Details
Scuba diving is one of those rare occupations in which you get paid to do something you love in some of the most beautiful places in the world. It's a lifestyle most people can only dream about - and Flying Fish will help you turn the dream into reality.
Working as a Divemaster means organising the equipment and supervising dives for customers who are already qualified. It's a responsible job and you need good communication skills and the ability to manage people - all taught on a Flying Fish course, naturally.
After you qualify
When you qualify as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor your career will start to take off. The worldwide scuba diving industry is developing fast and good instructors are in demand.
Where to start
Divemaster is the first rung on the PADI professional ladder. You will assist instructors both in the pool and on open water sessions. With time and experience as a PADI Divemaster, you’ll soon be raring to go for the next level: Open Water Scuba Instructor. As a PADI OWSI you will teach a variety of courses up to Divemaster level and start working towards becoming a Master Scuba Diver Trainer.
Where can you work
The oceans occupy 7/10 of the world's surface so you have plenty of choice. There are jobs to be had at Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, on remote islands in the Indian Ocean, in the Caribbean or the Red Sea. The world, as they say, is your oyster.
What you'll earn
Divemaster work is satisfying and a good way to build experience but it is quite poorly paid in most places: subsistence only. As a scuba instructor you can tell a different story. You will now be making money for your employer and can expect to be paid USD 700 to 2,000 a month, plus tips which can be substantial. Of course with experience and higher qualifications this goes up.
How to apply
The Flying Fish experience is enjoyed by over 600 people a year on professional courses - plus hundreds more who learn a new sport or join an improvement course. They come from all round the world. Everyone is over 18 but there is no upper limit. Many candidates are in their thirties and forties, a few in their fifties and sixties.
