The Chaleur

The Chaleur departures are specially timed to ensure you have the maximum daylight viewing of the beautiful Gaspe region. This whole area is a relatively undiscovered piece of paradise with jaw dropping scenery, a great collection of national parks and the continents longest hiking trail. The Appalachian Trail starts in the Forillon National Park and ends in Mt Springer, Georgia USA. The best bit about travelling by train is that you can either stop off and enjoy it all or just sit back, relax and stare in wonder from the comfort of you seat.
Pass detailsWhy buy thisThe Chaleur travels between Montréal and Gaspé Peninsula three times a week, year round, on a route that takes passengers through the enchanting village of Percé after wandering along the St. Lawrence River, the Matapédia Valley, and the Chaleur Bay. This is a part of Canada that is very popular with French speaking Canadians and if you want to appreciate the full experience of ‘French’ Canada then this has all the facilities you could want as well as being literally at the end of the line, at least as far as the Chaleur is concerned. And what better way to get here than on the Chaleur with its comfortable sleeping accommodation, dining car and observation car.
Potential stops / Your itineraryThe Chaleur stops regularly as it winds its way through beautiful countryside so why not take the opportunity to break your journey in one of these great destinations? If you are traveling on a full fare Comfort class ticket you may break your journey at any point en-route. If you are traveling on any form of discounted ticket (including student tickets) you cannot break your journey.
What you getThere are two levels of service on the Chaleur:Comfort (Economy) Class with its roomy seats, is synonymous with comfort and enjoyment.
What you don’t getAlmost every need is catered for on the Chaleur - the only things you may need to buy are:
How it worksYou will be issued with a voucher, which must be exchanged at the departure station for your actual ticket. Before boarding the train you must take your voucher and passport to the VIA Rail ticket office where they will issue you the ticket for your journey. If you do not have a reservation you will not be allowed to board unless there is space available - standing is not an option.Cancellations and refundsVouchers which are lost, stolen or validated/exchanged cannot be refunded. Refunds are only accepted on vouchers returned to International Rail before the start of their validity. Vouchers returned for cancellation or alterations have a standard 15% cancellation/exchange fee in addition to an administrative charge per ticket. Cancellation/alteration fees will be charged on each voucher returned. Duplicate or replacement vouchers cannot be issued under any circumstances. | |||||||||||||
