Product Details

The New Zealand Working Holiday Visa Scheme gives young people aged between 18 and 30 the opportunity to travel to New Zealand and undertake employment during their stay.  This scheme allows visa holders casual working rights in order to supplement their travels, and as such any work undertaken must be incidental and to the conditions stipulated on the visa/permit.

Most participants in the Working Holiday Scheme are allowed to remain in New Zealand for a total of 12 months, although this time can extended to 23 months if you are from the United Kingdom.

To be eligible for a New Zealand Working Holiday visa, you must:

  • Be a citizen of a country which has a working holiday agreement with New Zealand;
  • Meet Working Holiday basic requirements, such as age, health and character prerequisites;
  • Meet specific criteria based on the applicant's country of origin, including the length of stay and available funds; and
  • Have not qualified under the Working Holiday Visa Scheme before.

Additionally, applicants for a New Zealand Working Holiday Visa must also be genuinely travelling to New Zealand for the sole purpose of holidaying, and must abide by the visa conditions and be able to provide evidence they intend to leave the country when their visa expires.

The New Zealand working holiday visa scheme is only open to certain countries, and applicants MUST hold a passport from one of the Eligible Countries. The list of countries is as follows:

Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, Uruguay and the United States of America.

Also, please note that travellers who are living and working in New Zealand under the Working Holiday Maker Scheme must abide by the following conditions:

  • They must not undertake permanent employment unless they apply for and obtain a Work Permit that enables this; and
  • They may enrol in one training or study course of up to 3 months' duration during the course of their visit to New Zealand.
