Rewarding School Sports Project with Refugee Children in Auckland
Make a difference by coaching a wide variety of sports at a school in Auckland. The School Sports Project is a very worthwhile project designed to give you a really intensive coaching placement and improve your coaching CV.
Assisting and Playing Sports is fun for everyone, but also extremely beneficial in building team spirit, communication and leadership skills.
We have a variety of sports you can coach in New Zealand. Remember, you choose your dates and length of program! Our sports programs are not just for guys, so ladies, if you'd like to coach and play sports abroad, there are plenty of opportunities to do so on a Travellers sports project.
You will also teach sport to disadvantaged children at a school in Auckland, as well as training and playing in any of the other sports and offering much needed help in the classroom too. We have projects available in the following disciplines. Please click on the link to go to the web page with all the information about that particular project:
As a volunteer sports coach with Travellers, you have access to a large number of coaching manuals for each sport - these manuals have been produced in-house by our Sports Manager. These manuals are very useful and will help you to plan coaching sessions for your students. What you'll gain from doing this project:
- An exciting, never-to-be-forgotten adventure into New Zealand.
- The enormous satisfaction of helping disadvantaged children and knowing that you made a difference to them
- You'll learn a lot from experts in your field about how they work in a cultural environment that's different to what you're used to.
- New skills, more confidence, a greater understanding of a different culture, invaluable personal and professional development.
- An entry on your CV or résumé that will put you head and shoulders above most others in the job market
- And best of all ... an unforgettable experience!
Talk to us - We're there to help you. Most of our team are ex Travellers volunteers and are ideally qualified to offer advice and guidance because they know what you're looking for. They'll help you find your perfect project - and then make it all happen!

“The Hockey club I have been working with has been really grateful for my contribution, giving me lifts all over Auckland to get to junior and senior games. But as far as the club is concerned, I have been really impressed. The clubs standard is just right, giving me the challenge of raising my level of play, whilst allowing me to put my own abilities to good use. I have so far played in all of the clubs games for both the first team and the second team which takes part on the weekend. “
