Community Care Placements in Japan

Community Care Placements in Japan

Duration: from 6.00 Months to 6.00 Months

Countries: Japan

Lattitude Global Volunteering offers several caring placement opportunities for volunteers, many of which are in Leornard Cheshire Homes. These are dedicated to helping residents with physical and learning disabilities and volunteers help out in a myriad of ways, including helping with feeding and organising day activities such as cooking or painting. You may also be asked to help out with general duties such as cleaning and maintenance too. Lattitude also offer caring placements in homes for the elderly. Here volunteers are relied upon to help residents with personal and group therapy, daily chores as well as working closely with residents that may be suffering from dementia. Volunteers bring light and laughter to these homes and are much appreciated by those they work with. From a volunteers perspective these placements are ideal for those looking to gain experience in the caring and or nursing profession as well as experience Japanese culture.

The Land of the Rising Sun is made up of over 3000 islands of which Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku are the four largest.  Japan is highly advanced technologically and in many ways is very westernised, yet simultaneously it retains a strong sense of traditional culture. It is full of history, wonderful temples and beautiful, mountainous countryside and volunteers find Japan an incredibly clean and organised country. There are so many opportunities for volunteers to get involved, to learn Japanese and to travel.

Caring placements will involve working in Leonard Cheshire Homes and homes for the elderly as well as in centres dedicated to the care of those with disabilities. Volunteers form strong relationships with the people they help to care for and their help is greatly valued by both the staff and patients.

The Japanese emphasise the benefits of a stimulating, interesting environment and there is always much activity to motivate the residents including day trips, cookery, arts and crafts or drama.

Our volunteers are always warmly welcomed and valued. There is also the option of working in a community care centre where volunteers will play with young children, talk to the elderly and make friends with adolescents at the centre.
