Community Care Placements for Young Adults & Children in Argentina

Duration: from 4.00 Months to 5.00 Months

Countries: Argentina

Lattitude volunteers in Argentina work in homes for children who have either lost or been taken away from their families. Residents range from very young children to young adults who are still very vulnerable. Volunteering within one of these fantastic institutions is a great opportunity for anyone interested in community or caring work. Duties are very varied and you would have the opportunity to bring your own interests working with the children, especially when playing and entertaining the residents. Other duties will include helping with maintenance, school work and other small jobs. English is not frequently spoken in these placements, which makes them a great opportunity for volunteers looking to practice and improve upon Spanish language skills (if you are concerned about speaking Spanish, please call or email us and we can advise you accordingly)

If you are looking for a new cultural experience and can adapt to the Argentinian pace of life, then a rewarding time awaits. You will need to show flexibility and initiative and in turn, you will have the chance to develop your Spanish and build strong ties with your hosts.

Community placements are available in children’s or residential homes when some of the children with learning difficulties become adults.

Volunteers provide support within the children’s home to residents, who range in age from newborns to 16 years old. In the home, volunteers assist with the day-to-day running of the centre.

Activities with the residents, such as arts, drama and sport, are also greatly appreciated and enjoyed. No English is spoken in these centres, so volunteers need to learn to speak basic Spanish before their placements begin.

The working week for placements in Argentina ranges between 15 and 36 hours. Weekends are usually free.

User Comments:

“The architecture here is amazing, the cathedrals are unbelievable; centuries old yet like new. My host family is seriously my family and I feel like I’ve known them for years. My Nan gives me hugs and loves to thumb through the dictionary with me so we can put sketchy Spanglish phrases together.”
