Medical Placements with the Red Cross in Japan

Our Medical volunteers in Japan work in busy hospitals while living in a beautiful and culturally-fascinating country. Lattitude volunteers usually work in Red Cross hospitals around the country and have the opportunity to witness day-to-day hospital life – from nursing to brain surgery! Typically your duties as a volunteer will include transporting patients around the hospital, preparing bandages and dressings, collecting prescriptions from the pharmacy and generally working with the nursing and medical teams. Additionally, volunteers will usually help nursing staff with their English in return for Japanese lessons. Although it is not expected for you to know much Japanese, a basic understanding and the willingness to gain knowledge of Japanese will really help expand your role. The better you are at the language, the more likely it is that you will be trusted with extra responsibilities! All applicants are matched to placements to ensure that there is a good fit between the volunteer and the hospital.
