What's it all about?
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop and practise leadership skills in an expedition context with the support of experienced wilderness leaders and management trainers. A key component of the programme is the recognition of the link between expedition leadership skills and career leadership roles. The programme will combine best practice from business management, sports coaching and leadership training models to provide you with a solid grounding in leadership theory; with the chance to practise the soft and hard skills of leadership.
The programme is delivered over six months through three pre-expedition weekends and a month-long expedition to Norway. All the training is extremely practical, focussing real and role-play projects that relate to expedition planning and the delivery of scientific fieldwork and adventure activities in an expedition environment.

BSES Expeditions is a youth development charity which strives to keep expedition costs as low as possible. Please note that advance planning to remote and often difficult to access wilderness areas is subject to many variables and the costs may vary. These will be confirmed six months before departure. You are required to organise and run your own fundraising activities, lots of advice and encouragement will be given. We can offer mentoring support, for those who feel completely daunted by the prospect of fundraising, to ensure you reach your targets.
Our users say...
"In today's work environment, employers are just looking for more than just a degree. They are looking for the proven ability to work as part of a team, and the potential to lead it. If going on an expedition is a step towards achieving these skills, then the BSES Leadership Development Programme is a giant leap. You are constantly exposed to situations which require leadership, with a leader team who want to support you through the process of leadership, rather than do it themselves. I know of no other programme in which you can learn and apply these skills in such a challenging, majestic environment." - Chris Wane, Leadership Trainee
