Teach Orphans in Beautiful Livingstone
from £795 GBP
to £2095 GBP
Care for Orphans in Livingstone, a stone's throw from the Magnificent Victoria Falls! This magnificent country in the heart of Africa is a haven for wildlife and has some spectacular scenery and natural wonders. It is fast developing into a must-see destination and your time there is bound to be a memorable one. Zambians are extremely welcoming and you will instantly be drawn in by the friendly locals.
The school is quite small and incredibly basic - you will feel part of the family immediately! There are approximately 250 pupils at the school and class sizes normally range from about 30-35. The school is also a home to 20 permanent male orphans and the children’s ages range from 7 to 19 years.
They also run a drop-in educational and feeding programme for the local children in the community where they try to provide a 3 meal feeding programme to all the children at the orphanage too.
The level of education of the children is generally very poor, and it will be up to you and the director to ascertain how best to use your skills. This may mean taking sport and games lessons or offering care for children, it may well be in the form of informal English or vocational teaching which is one of the biggest privileges to receive. You should be supervised all of the time while you are there, and you will be given help and directions. Your work load will depend on yourself and your attitude, with more work becoming available as you grow in confidence. Your work may include...
- Preparing food for the children
- Helping the children eat
- Helping carers and caring for the children
- Occasionally taking the children to the hospital for immunisation, treatment etc.
- General cleaning of the compound and the orphanage
- Washing clothes and the children
- Teaching informal English, Arithmetic and sports to the children
- Organising and facilitating games and plays for the children
- An exciting, never-to-be-forgotten adventure into Africa.
- New skills, more confidence, a greater understanding of a different culture, invaluable personal and professional development.
- An entry on your CV or résumé that will put you head and shoulders above most others in the job market
- The enormous satisfaction of helping disadvantaged children and knowing that you made a difference to them
- And best of all ... an unforgettable experience!
You'll live in a small, modern and lively hostel in the centre of Livingstone. The hostel has a large private garden shaded with huge mango trees, and a crystal clear swimming pool. It also has a lively, sociable bar area where many activities are arranged. What to do next

“I know that I would not have felt comfortable making a trip like this on my own. Travellers Worldwide was a good guide to enable me to see a part of the world I likely would not have seen without help and enabled me to meet people that I would not have met otherwise. The experience is one that will stay with me forever.”
