Make a difference to the lives of local children in this world-renowned surf spot on South Africa’s beautiful Eastern Cape coastline. You’ll stay in a backpackers’ lodge, teaching basic numeracy, literacy and artistic skills and connecting with the children themselves. Your efforts will build hope and self-respect, equipping children with the skills and confidence to face the world positively - and you'll have lots of time for surfing!
Ideally suited to people wanting an introduction to conservation in Southern Africa and those wishing to pursue a conservation oriented career, as well as wishing to improve their personal knowledge of wildlife.

This is a complete two week course, but if you want a longer trip you can combine it with another placement.

those who love animals and want to see them in their natural habitat. It's a great placement for budding adventurers as you'll be experiencng the African wilderness close up! Your schedule will be based around the animals so you can expect to spend many hours observing lion behaviour and plenty of early mornings and late nights! With guidance, you will learn how to use all the relevant equipment and will be trained in all relevant areas. We will all work as a team so you’ll get involved in all areas of the research and base logistics. The project is expanding so you have the chance to be collar and habituating leopards for new research initiatives, when you are not monitoring the lions.
Anyone looking for shorter (Mini-Gap) surf travel experience that combines focused surf coaching with involvement in local community projects whilst travelling around the South African coastline.
Someone with a positive attitude, plenty of enthusiasm and energy. Applicants should have an interest in new cultures & the environment as well as working with communities in a third world country. We realize that each volunteer that joins us has different skills and varying specialties to offer. People who want to make a real difference to underprivileged children, want first-hand experience of rural African Zulu culture and who have initiative. No qualifications or previous experience are necessary, just a good dose of enthusiasm!

When you're on your placement, if you'd like to extend your time, you can do so at a cost of £110 per additional week.
