How would you like to work in a world class French-speaking ski resort with an amazing nightlife? You can with Oyster Worldwide; we provide you with a job and accommodation, and you get the best working holiday you can imagine! With this trip you also get the chance to practice your French through our course and by practising with your fellow staff.
You will work in some of the best hotels, restaurants and bars in Tremblant. Starting out in very simple “back of house” jobs until your employers can see your level of French and customer service. After that you can move up in the company; we have previously had someone working for a top end hotel parking luxury cars for guests!
You could work in Tremblant if you are a student aged between 18-30 and have a confirmed UCAS place, you are currently studying at a UK University or have graduated in the last 12 months and are a British Citizen.
The Jobs
You could be starting out as a housekeeper in a Canadian hotel preparing and cleaning guest bedrooms until employers can see that you have a good level of French and customer service. You may also be working in a bar or restaurant starting out as a dishwasher or cooks helper but as before if you have a good level of French and work hard you will rise through the ranks!
Occasionally people have exceptional experience and may well get offered a customer service job at the outset. It usually takes most participants around 2 -3 months before their employers are happy for them to work with customers.
Standards are high in Canada and you'll be expected to be punctual, smart and polite. If you don't mind working hard you'll have a great time - both at work, where you will be part of a busy team, and in the resort itself. The attitude in Canada really is ‘Work hard, Play hard’!
By accepting a place with us, you will be guaranteed a job as long as you can provide a clean Police Check and a UCAS letter/Graduation Certificate.
The Pay..
You can expect to earn a good wage above the Canadian minimum wage. Most people find that there is plenty of money to enjoy a great social life, live comfortably and even save money for when they go home. Wages are approximately £200 per week.
Skiing Experience
Tremblant is the perfect Ski Resort for all levels of skiing. Experienced skiers have taken their skiing to new levels by doing extra courses. If you have only been skiing a few times – you can spend your free time skiing and improving! Over your 6 months you will become an expert on the slopes!
Accommodation...
You will receive great accommodation just a short bus ride away from Tremblant. Your condo is very high quality allowing the perfect place to relax after work. The condos are self-catering so you can get some good cooking practice in if you wanted. You would be sharing the condo with a group of other people from Oyster and there is there is the possibility that you may be sharing a room. We can guarantee this accommodation before you leave the UK.
You will pay for accommodation whilst you are away which is great value and works out to be approximately 2 hours pay per night.
Do I get a social life..?
You will be working 5 days a week full time on average over the 5 months. During peak times though, you may work more hours and during the low season you may have a bit more time off.
There is so much to do during your time off. There is obviously the world-class skiing and snowboarding in Tremblant itself, not forgetting cross-
country skiing and ice skating! Or if you need to give the knees a rest, there are plenty of bars to relax or you could visit Montreal.
You will be part of a group of people who have the most fantastic social life coming back with some great stories to tell and some even better friends.
Most people choose to travel around Canada and North America before flying home to really make the most of their trip.
Oyster Support
Being a small and personal Gap Year company, our dedicated team of 3 full time staff really take the time to get to know you and provide a personal service.
1. When we receive your application, we invite you to an informal interview and tell you all about the placement that you have applied for.
2. 3 months before departure, we meet you and the rest of your group again at the Pre Departure Course to tell you even more about the country and project that you will be working in.
3. Once in Tremblant, our Representative Cynthia becomes your main point of contact, being there to help with any problems either at the placement or in your personal life.
Here at Oyster, we have the right balance between support and independence and as such our representatives are not your typical ‘holiday rep’, we like to think of them as helpful friends to you. We do encourage you to be independent and help yourself but should you need it you can feel assured that you have our established support network on hand at any time.
Cynthia hosts monthly meet ups where Oyster will pay for some drinks and food to give you an opportunity to talk through any problems that the group may be having. This is also the time that she can pass on any information that may be useful.
