After opening up its doors to the rest of the world, China’s Shanghai is now the place for foreign investors. There is no better time to witness developments within this complex and fascinating country whilst feeling the buzz of progression. Of course where there is commercial activity, businesses need lawyers.

This ever-changing city has more and more Western companies arriving every week, most needing legal assistance. Your placement will undoubtedly reflect this modern, fast moving society.

Day-to-day you'll work alongside English speaking local lawyers, one of whom will also act as your supervisor. Your language abilities and understanding of Western culture and law are interesting and useful to Chinese Law firms. Let us know your areas of interest - volunteers in the past have worked in banking law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate intellectual property, taxation and insolvency.

To apply for one of our Law in China placements you must have some experience of law; most of our volunteers are part way through a law course or have completed their studies and are interested in gaining practical work experience in a law firm abroad.

A Law placement with Projects Abroad would be an impressive addition (or alternative) to important Easter/ Summer Vacation Placements or Mini-pupillages. You will be able to gain a unique insight into the day-to-day practice of law and the very rule of law in a Chinese environment.

You will have the full support and back up of our staff in our Shanghai office as well as our UK office. Shanghai is a city like no other, and having experienced Chinese culture in this awesome and buzzing metropolis, you can spend weekends and free time experiencing more of China, from the peaceful West Lake in Hangzhou to the unforgettable sight of the Great Wall.
