Overview
Keen to earn a living wage in a world class ski resort, enjoying the ski slopes and an amazing nightlife? You can with Oyster Worldwide. We provide you with a job and accommodation, and the best working holiday you can imagine!
We’ve been sending people to Banff since 2000 and have been able to secure some great job opportunities. You can work as a housekeeper in Banff’s hostels and hotels, gaining promotions if you work hard. We have also had people work in ski hire shops, hotel restaurants and even a hotel reception desk!
These placements are available for students aged between 18-30 that have a confirmed UCAS place, are currently studying at a UK university or who have graduated in the last 12 months and are British citizens.
The Jobs...
You will probably start out as a housekeeper in a Canadian hotel preparing and cleaning guest bedrooms until employers can see that you work well and work hard. If you have particularly good bar or restaurant experience you might be offered a job there from the start. We now have more and more jobs to offer in small family-run hotels that give you the chance to shine in your role and get promoted to other duties quickly.
Canadians expect exceptional customer service so
you'll be expected to be punctual, smart and polite. If you don't mind working hard you'll have a great time - both at work, and in the resort itself. The attitude in Canada really is ‘Work hard, Play hard’!
By accepting a place offered by Oyster, you will be guaranteed a job as long as you can provide a clean Police Check and a UCAS letter/Graduation Certificate.
The Pay...
You can expect to earn a good wage above the Canadian minimum wage. Most people find that there is plenty of money to enjoy a great social life, live comfortably and even save money for when they go home. Wages are approximately £200 per week.
Skiing Experience...
Banff is the perfect ski resort for all levels of skiing. Experienced skiers have taken their skiing to new levels by doing extra courses. If you have only been skiing a few times, this is your chance to improve! Over your 6 months you will become an expert on the slopes.
Accommodation...
You will live in staff accommodation at the hotel you will be working at, meaning you can roll out of bed and be at work straight away - no long commute! We make sure your accommodation and job are confirmed before you leave the UK.
Depending on the hotel, accommodation varies from apartment-style (similar to university
accommodation) to a shared bunk room. All accommodation is self-catering with cooking facilities provided. Expect to share a room.
Participants do pay for accommodation whilst in Banff. This is great value and works out to be approximately 1 hours pay per night which comes directly off of your pay cheque every 2 weeks.
Do I get a social life..?
You will be working 5 days a week full time on average over the 6 months. During peak times though, you may work more hours and during the low season you may have a bit more time off.
There is so much to do during your time off. There is obviously the world-class skiing and snowboarding in Banff itself, not forgetting cross-country skiing and ice skating! Or if you need to give the knees a rest, there are plenty of bars to relax in or you could visit the nearby city of Calgary. You could also visit the other ski resorts of Mount Norquay or Lake Louise if you wanted to try something new.
You will be part of a group of people, enjoying the most fantastic social life. And you’ll come back with some great stories to tell and some even better friends.

Most people choose to travel around Canada and North America before flying home to really make the most of their trip.
