Crocodile Care Programs
Volunteer with Crocodiles
Crocodile care programs focus their time and energy on all types of crocodiles, whether they are endangered, threatened or just in the wild. Volunteers focus their efforts on four main categories: animal care, habitat construction, grounds keeping and horticulture. They also occasionally have the opportunity to host workshops with people in the local community to teach how to live peacefully alongside these reptiles.
Volunteers on crocodile care programs will need to give daily care by cleaning enclosures, preparing food, digging ponds, ensuring the cleanliness of the water and more. Volunteer with crocodiles and you may also be asked to participate in fundraising opportunities and to assist in the development of government policy regarding crocodiles. Advanced programs may focus their efforts on the reproductive cycle of crocodiles, analyse their behaviour and try to understand their psychology.
Some programs are only open to professional biologists and zookeepers while others are open to people from all walks of life, so please ensure you read up on the program that interests you. Crocodile care programs can be a unique experience and something you might want to try on your gap year.
