Volunteers on this Projects Abroad Care placement work with children in either an orphanage or care home. All care projects are located in Nakaru, 160km north-west of Nairobe. The HIV/AIDS epidemic has had a huge impact on Kenya and left thousands of children orphans. These children are desperate for attention, and this is where you can help as a volunteer.

On top of our usual Outdoor Instructor roles in Canada, some of our outdoor camp hosts also offer volunteers the chance to experience a caring element to their placement. If you were interested in this experience, you could choose to volunteer in a camp that welcomes groups of disadvantaged children or people with special needs. Your responsibilities in these roles will be very active and varied, and you can expect to help run exciting activities such as High Ropes, Zip-line, Climbing Wall, Archery, Orienteering, Animal Game, Hiking, Broomball, Snowshoeing, Wilderness Survival, Arts & Crafts etc. You will also be responsible for the direct care, support and supervision of campers. Working with residents in these camps and helping them enjoy their active stay at these camps is a hugely fun and rewarding experience. All applicants are matched to placements to ensure that there is a good fit between the volunteer and their host communities. Lattitude Global Volunteering offers several caring placement opportunities for volunteers, many of which are in Leornard Cheshire Homes. These are dedicated to helping residents with physical and learning disabilities and volunteers help out in a myriad of ways, including helping with feeding and organising day activities such as cooking or painting. You may also be asked to help out with general duties such as cleaning and maintenance too. Lattitude also offer caring placements in homes for the elderly. Here volunteers are relied upon to help residents with personal and group therapy, daily chores as well as working closely with residents that may be suffering from dementia. Volunteers bring light and laughter to these homes and are much appreciated by those they work with. From a volunteers perspective these placements are ideal for those looking to gain experience in the caring and or nursing profession as well as experience Japanese culture.
