One in four adults in South Africa are illiterate, and many school children are unable to read and write in English, often with parents unable to help. The project aims to improve children’s attitude to reading and improve their literacy skills by recruiting and training volunteers to help children aged 5-12 who find reading difficult.
As a volunteer your working hours will be from Monday to Friday, 9am until 1pm, though you are welcome to do more if you would like to! Using the skills you have learnt from your inclusive TEFL course, you will be working one-to-one with children, reading to them, encouraging them to read back and boosting their confidence in speaking and reading English.
