Volunteer in Cape Town’s townships and help give orphaned and disadvantaged children the educational opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable to them.

In order to attend formal school in South Africa students must be at a certain academic level, and you will be helping the children we work with to reach this standard. A good understanding of English can opens up significant opportunities in the future and you will be heavily involved planning and delivering English lessons. You will also help organise and run outdoor exercises and games, arts and crafts, storytelling, music and drama lessons and assist with homework – so expect to be busy!

Training is provided on arrival, which includes lesson planning, a local language lesson and class management, and you will receive on-going support from GVI staff. Basic resources, art materials and games are also provided and if you would like to get involved in helping some of the children with special needs, there are also opportunities to learn the required skills.

You will be living in a shared house/apartment in an attractive coastal village close to Cape Town and Stellenbosch. During your free time, discover Robben Island, meet the penguins at Cape Point, quaff a little wine in the vineyards of Stellenbosh, or even take a trip to one of the national parks and get up close and personal with the Big Five on safari!
