Product Details
Greenforce was invited out to the Bahamas by the Bahamas National Trust to undertake the first long-term survey of the Andros Island reef, the third longest barrier reef in the world. In conjunction with the Andros Conservancy and Trust and friendship with the people of South Blanket Sound, Greenforce established its first camp in October 2001. We will train you to PADI Open Water, then PADI Advanced and also Emergency First Response. You learn to dive within the protection of the reef, in crystal clear water - so much more enjoyable than a swimming pool! Following this the science team will take over, teaching you how to identify and assess the marine life and reef related patterns. Management of the parks is still in the planning stages. As such, the data is treated as ‘baseline’ or control information upon which future decisions will rely and lead to the design of sustainable monitoring programmes. The project’s findings are also used to support community projects such as fortnightly work with a local primary school and community newsletters, both of which are encouraged in order to raise environmental awareness.Highlights:
- Protect the world’s third largest barrier reef
- Diving with sharks and turtles
- Privacy Pad for couples and single rooms
- The Government supported ‘no take zone’ we created has protected the north of the island, we now need your help to cerate a sustainable future for the stunning central zone.
Includes:
- Airport pickup and training
- All accommodation, meals and transport in country
- Up to 11 dives a week
