We are pleased to be able to offer a ‘Real Maldives’ experience to our volunteers. If you are looking for a life-changing experience, an opportunity to make a real and substantial difference to people’s lives, live among a small island community and integrate yourself into a unique culture, as well as enjoying the beauty and magic of an amazing country, then the Maldives is the place to be!
Being the first volunteer company in the Maldives, we have had tremendous support from government, private, and individual organisations alike. We have built up trust and credibility from all sectors of the community, and we are all united in what we want to achieve.
A core set of values guides everything we do – at the forefront of that vision is the desire and commitment to make sure all volunteer projects are of an immense benefit, and sustainable to the small island communities we work closely with. For the volunteers, we endeavor to ensure the valuable time given by our volunteers provides a fulfilling and unforgettable experience that they’ll carry with them throughout their lives.
Dependent on the island, if the school is short of teachers, volunteers may find themselves taking classes on their own – don’t worry! You’ll soon find that, if English is your native tongue, or very fluent, you are actually in a better position than most of the teachers already working in the schools! It is always best to prepare for this scenario – there are plenty of resources available on line – giving ideas of class workshops, lessons, and worksheets, so you shouldn’t run out of ideas, and will probably end up implementing your own programs as you get more enthusiastic about the challenge awaiting you!
Your time will pass very quickly, but all our volunteers have been an inspiration to the kids on the islands, and your time is of huge benefit to the children.
Our volunteers who work in the pre-schools (each island has one, which is normally privately owned), usually the priority is to give them a good basic knowledge of the English language to prepare them for Grad one mainstream school.
The idea here though, is to keep learning fun, and use a variety of educational games and interactive activities for the children, whilst teaching them the elementary skills they need.
Arts and crafts, singing and nursery rhymes can all be used in a motivational environment. These programs are excellent for younger volunteers with an excellent command of the English language, but who don’t have specific experience. Enthusiasm and a flexible attitude are required for these posts!
