In Northern Thailand, the traditional lifestyle of slash-and-burn subsistance farming has been affected by moves to protect the land and forests, and over the past decade, this has led to more and more villages turning to 'selling' their girls to bring in an income. The practise has become so commonplace, that girls as young as 8 prepare for their time to be 'sent to the city'. Contrary to our perceptions, girls sold into the sex industry are allowed to return home and visit their families, but culture dictates that they not complain about the path that their parent have chosen for them.

This projects works at the heart of the problem, educating the villagers about the real fate of their girls, working with them to identify different sources of income and providing education for the young villagers to give them better future options.

Back on the camp, girls who the project have negotiated release for, live on-site. Volunteers work alongside project leaders to build classrooms, work on the organic farms help develop mushroom houses that provide incomes for teh villages and teach english and other subjects to the girls to provide them with a better future.

You can join this project from 2 weeks up to 3 months, and whether you have skills in teaching, counselling and building or if you just have the energy adn enthusiasm to get stuck in, we can use you on this amazing project.

If you are interested in Photography, our project leader is a highly aclaimed photo journalist and we run 10 and 15 day photography camps as part of the project which look to develop your photographic skills in relation to documenting human issues, and in taking part in the project, you help provide more materials to aid eduction in this sector. This February we have a 15 day photography-trek planned that is a must-do for any photography enthusiast - whether you are just starting out or you've been snapping for years.
