Product Details

For applicants from the UK, we have a number of bursary schemes available for volunteers from a variety of backgrounds.

Our bursary scheme and funded placement projects reduce the barrier of cost for young people experiencing financial problems. They are designed to help young people who would not otherwise be able to afford to go.

Placements are in state schools and faith schools (Presbyterian, Catholic and Anglican) at pre-school, primary and secondary levels. Schools, especially primary schools, have very large classes and are not well resourced so the work of Lattitude volunteers is greatly appreciated. All the placements are in rural areas, some on the edge of small towns, but public transport is good. In primary schools volunteers are required to teach English as well as other subjects following the curriculum. In secondary schools, volunteers will assist with science, English and IT and extra curricular activities like sport and music.

Volunteers are required to tech their strongest subjects- either your ‘A level’ subjects or those you did best in at GCSE. This is more the case at the secondary schools.

As well as the national curriculum some schools also teach woodwork, metal work and home economics. One school has a piggery and the pupils are very involved in conservation work through their wild life club. Extra curricular activities are very important and assistance with drama, sport, debating club, the school newspaper, etc, would be very much appreciated. One school teaches drama, has a strong drama society and it is working toward performing at the International Shakespeare Festival in April 2008. You will be well supported with any new innovative idea for extra curricular activities.
