Why go backpacking in Botswana?
Botswana is often overlooked when compared to its neighbour South Africa. It’s generally a more expensive place to visit and less set up for gap years, but there’s plenty here for backpackers keen to explore and some of the less-travelled areas of southern Africa.
This is a beautiful country, with land ranging from dry bush to epic sand dunes and stunning, jagged caves. Botswana is a great place to get adventurous, with 4×4 off-roading, quad biking and more all potential options.
Wildlife and nature is a huge draw of Botswana, with national parks and game reserves offering the awesome opportunity to see lions, rhinos, giraffes and loads more of Africa’s living, breathing wonders on a safari.
While Botswana tends to cater for high end, low impact tourism, it’s possible to do it on a budget; just make sure you plan your trip well, and you could soon be rocking the gorgeous isolation and epic other-worldness of Botswana.
