A commercial airline is about to offer an eight minute flight, making it the shortest international flight in the world.
The trip, from St Gallen in Switzerland to Friedrichshafen in Germany, is only 20km long, taking passengers from one side of Lake Constance to the other.
Previously the record was held by the 10 minute flight between Vienna and Bratislava, a distance of around 50km.
Tickets on the new route are expected to cost around £35.
An eight minute flight time might make such a route seem unnecessary, but it’s nothing compared to Europe’s shortest domestic flight, a title held by the 47 second journey between the villages of Westray and Papa Westray in the Orkney Islands, Scotland. It’s often called the world’s shortest flight.
They might be worth taking just for the novelty value alone.
