Cartoonist wins Cuba competition

An artist has won last month’s competition to send one lucky traveller to the island of Cuba.
Professional doodler Rosie Brooks, 32, triumphed in the Gecko’s Adventures contest, and has won an exciting nine-day tour of the island.
She can now look forward to seeing the many wonderful and colourful sides of Cuba that make the country so incredible.
On her trip Rosie will get to explore the faded magnificence of Havana, before crossing the island to the ancient coastal town of Trinidad. She will also get to experience Cuba’s lively music and dance culture, laze about on beautiful sandy beaches and learn about Cuba’s revolutionary heroes.
Rosie, who lives in London, said: “It feels amazing to have won. It is such a great surprise.
“I’m most looking forward to having a proper Daiquiri!”
The cartoonist has travelled a little previously, having visited Brazil, Japan and the United States.
Cuba isn’t a traditional gap year backpacker destination, but with so much raw excitement, culture heritage and dramatic history it’s a highly recommended location for a short gap.

We run regular competitions like this on gapyear.com. Keep your eyes peeled for more incredible contests and prizes in the future.
