Passport? Check. Boarding pass? Check. All electronic devices fully charged? Um…

A trip to the airport can be a stressful affair, but now passengers also need to make sure that their electronics are charged and fully working – a struggle at the best of times.

The Department of Transport has announced that passengers flying out of the UK will be expected to power up their electronic devices when asked. If the item doesn’t power up then we’re afraid you’re going to have to leave it behind, but you can pick it up when you return or have it forwarded to another address. But let’s be honest, it would just be easier to bring your charger.

These new regulations have already been practiced on flights to the US, but now the British Transport Department is applying this strategy on transatlantic and Europe-bound flights.

It’s not just mobile phones either. Laptops, tablets, MP3 players, electric razors, cameras and basically any electric possession in your hand luggage will need to be charged. It might be worth picking up an extension lead in duty free…

These new regulations relate to a recent US airport threat, but no exact details were given. Basically, it’s a case of better safe than sorry.
