Prankster sets up spoof passport control on Scottish border

Ahead of this week’s nail-biting ‘will they, won’t they’ Scottish referendum, Manchester-based photographer Jon Parker Lee decided to make light of the situation. The prankster created a fake Scottish border control near Carter Bar, where the A68 crosses the England/Scottish border.

Two realistic barriers, road signs, and cones were put together in the early hours by Mr Lee and his friends. The road signs stated ‘Scottish Border Agency Passport Control’ much to the surprise of unsuspecting drivers. To make it even more convincing, the ‘staff’ wore hi-vis jackets –  because nothing says ‘official’ like a fluorescent coat.

Under the sign it stated that the border control would come into action from the September 19, the day after the votes will be counted.  Although the prank may seem like a political move, Mr. Lee told the Daily Mail: "We're not making a point for either side. We've staged this together as a group of Scottish and English. We're simply united in having a laugh."

Polls suggest that it’s a tight call for the referendum vote on Thursday, which will see Scotland become an independent country if it gets the ‘Yes’ vote.
