The Havana Club Gap Year Winner is Revealed!
It was a tough decision, but Havana Club have their winner…
Back in January we told you how you could win a gap year with Havana Club Rum. All you needed to do was make a video, upload it and you could be one of 18 jetting off to the final in Havana. We sent our Victoria Philpott out to judge the whole thing along with five other judges, including the winner of the Best Job of the World, Ben Southall.
18 finalists made their way to Havana from as far as Latvia, Chile, Canada and Estonia to compete to win a trip around the world via 12 unforgettable experiences.
The week was spent eating in the finest particulares (Cuban restaurants), drinking a few Mojitos and working hard to create the best video to capture the ‘spirit of Havana’.
Each finalist was given an iPad to make their three-minute film on and they stomped the labyrinthine streets of Havana to talk to locals, track down stories and film their new-found friends.
It was an incredible week, filled with hard work, sweat and at times, tears, and that was just the judges.
Each finalist had to present their video to the board of judges – explaining their concept, how the spirit of Havana had changed them and answer a range of tough questions.
The winner of the Havana Club Gap Year was chosen though: Congratulations to Julian Medina from Colombia!
He’ll be touring with a jazz band in Toronto, learning to make the perfect daiquiri in Havana and learning from a renowned travel writer aboard the Trans Siberian express, among nine other (possibly) life-changing experiences to boot.
