VisitOz competition winner announced
Back in February we ran a news story covering VisitOz’s call for creative travellers. Well, we’re proud to announce that the winner is (drum roll please) Jamie Calum Niemann from Germany.
VisitOz were on the lookout for a creative traveller to redesign their logo to use on their website and in their literature. Jamie, a media design student, entered.
Jamie said: “I was really happy and honoured when I heard that I won the competition. It wasn’t only for the prizes; it was more the fact that a big company wanted to use a logo which I designed.”
Jamie entered the competition after a colleague from work told him about it.
Jamie said of the logo, which depicts two kangaroo’s, “I just tried to display Australia and VisitOz and all that it stands for in one logo. If you think of a kangaroo you automatically think of Australia; it is like an unofficial logo for Australia, and that’s how I tried to design the logo. People who don’t know anything about VisitOz should at least get an idea what it is when they see the logo.”
The prize, which VisitOz put together in association with Tourism Queensland and the Youth Hostel Association (YHA), includes a VisitOz programme, a YHA membership, and a tour around some of Queensland’s stunning sites, such as Hervey Bay and the Whitsunday’s.
“I always wanted to go to Australia but actually never had the time to do it. I’m excited about seeing the whole country – it looks amazing and there’s so much to see – I think the whole work and travel thing is a really good opportunity to get to know the real Australia.” Jamie said.
Joanna Burnet, managing director of VisitOz, said: “The logo was voted for by 130 tourism professionals at the Work Experience Travel Market (WETM) in Budapest. The design was a clear winner and it now on our VisitOz Facebook page. We have now commissioned Jamie to design another logo for us with a more farmy feel to it!”
Congratulations to Jamie and good luck working and travelling in Australia!
