I’m planning to do a bit of that journey, mostly by using trains or buses within Malaysia (they seem to be reasonably good), and then getting the train up to Bangkok, possibly stopping off at Koh Samui if time allows (doubtful at this time :()

im thinking of starting in vietnam, moving east through laos, thailand. go north of bangkok to the “cultural” experience, then south to Bangkok. then hit the beachs (i dont know where the best ones are yet). maybe the thai islands on the way. then move south throught to malaysia, then to singapore

then on to oz, (or maybe bali, but with my rtw thats serious miles added as i would have to return to singapore)

Hey Ollie. I’m leaving for S.E.Asia in 3 weeks, heading to Bangkok first.
Just thought i’d say that on any of the RTW tickets I was offered it was NOT possible to fly straight into Vietnam as the airlines offered (Qantas/British Airways-i think) do not fly there. They said I would have to fly to Bangkok. Hence, I am now doing Thailand>Laos>Vietnam>Cambodia>Thailand (basically doing a big circle). You could get a connecting flight when you enter but for the price it does not seem worth it whatsoever (It’s quite alot).
Good luck sorting things out,
Adam

I was thinking of getting the train to bangkok from singapore then maybe flying back to get my rtw flight out of singapore to aus… I don’t know too much about how I’m going to do it yet 😯 three weeks til i leave and still in complete chaos, eek! I have about a month in all in Asia in May, and want to see as much as possible but without speeding around too much, so it’d be great to hear what you guys are planning!

I’m planning on travelling from Bangkok to Singapore to taking in the sights on the way. It’s really cheap and easy to do when you are out there, check out http://www.seat61.com/Malaysia.htm for some great info on trains. Going in a few weeks (eek!)
